TrackMan™ to be used on 4 holes during broadcast of The 2008 Open Championship

(VEDBAEK, DENMARK) –  TrackMan™ data will be measured and broadcasted on four holes during The Open Championship, Tuesday through Sunday.

During The 2008 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, July 17-20, TrackMan™ data will be captured during live competition for the third time in The Open Championship history. In 2007, TrackMan™ monitors measured competitor tee shots on two tees. For 2008, TrackMan™ technology will capture shot data – including club delivery data, player launch and trajectory data - on four tees (#3, #6, #12 and #17), during practice and competition rounds. Some of these data will be broadcasted live – by BBC, ABC and TNT - to television viewers around the world.

During tournament play from Thursday through Sunday, club head speed, ball speed, carry distance and 3D graphics (ball flight trajectory) for contestants in The Open Championship will be delivered to the television audience. Additional parameters, such as spin rate and launch angle, may also be examined live.

TrackMan™’s continued presence at the Open Championship will enable The R&A to gather significant input for its extensive research, increasing its understanding of how today’s Open Championship courses are approached and played.

The data provided by the TrackMan™ Tour System includes 3-D shot trajectory, carry distance, ball landing position, ball speed, vertical launch angle, spin rate, club speed, and more.
